INFANT COLIC-Can We Help?
Yes, parents, you’re right. If your baby is crying and inconsolable for several hours a day, there probably IS a reason.
Most sources say the cause of colic is unknown and there’s nothing definitive to do about it. If you just hang in there a couple more months, it will probably go away.
We beg to disagree. You don’t have to wait.
After almost 50 years of working with the topic of infant colic, we believe there are two potentially “fixable” causes and one straight-forward method for potential relief.

Who we are
You may be wondering why we have a colic website. Dr. David Sharp and Mrs. Barbara Sharp, a Family Physician and a Health Educator, first discovered a way to relieve colic almost 50 years ago. Our suspicions were confirmed by the fussy babies helped in our home medical office, and by the information we sought and found that explained the “how” and “why” of many inconsolable infants. One of our four children and four of our eleven grandchildren had colic, right along with the projected statistics of incidence. Please see ABOUT US for more about our credentials and experience.
If your baby cries in pain even when it’s fed, warm, dry, and safe, and there are no other sources of infection or injury, we hope to help you. We would love to see infant constipative colic abolished in our lifetimes.
History
A medical history is the story told by those with an illness or problem, including infant colic. Another meaning of “history” is events as remembered by observers and recorded by writers. George Santayana famously said, “Those who cannot remember history are condemned to repeat it.” We’re afraid that’s what’s happening with infant colic, and particularly with constipative colic.
And by the way, your colicky baby is not your fault.
Cause
We believe backed-up stool resulting in a painfully distended colon is the primary source of pain and discomfort for colicky babies with constipative colic. Embryology, colo-rectal surgery textbooks and historical writings all confirm what examinations and practical experience are finding.
Cure
We call performing a careful examination of the ano-rectal canal The Soothee because it usually simultaneously reveals one or both causes of constipative colic, and provides immediate relief for both baby and family.
Family life is much better after colic has been relieved.
